Reduce Your Risk of Tree Damage

Falling trees and limbs cause millions of dollars worth of damage each year in the United States. Regular examinations of trees for damage or other trouble signs are recommended. Some potential problems are easy to spot. They include:

· Cracks in the trunk or major limbs
· Hollowed or decayed trees
· Significantly leaning trees
· Branches that overhang structures
· Limbs in contact with power lines
· Mushrooms growing from the bark
· Crossing branches that rub or interfere with each other

Regular examinations of your trees will not only help to beautify your property but also ensure its safety. Coverage for fallen trees can vary from one carrier to another. In most cases, removal of fallen trees is not covered under your homeowners insurance unless it has damaged physical property, so looking out for these trouble signs can save you money. If needed, consult a tree care expert (arborist) as they can provide valuable advice and assistance in ensuring the health, safety and prosperity of your trees. Should you have any questions or would like to discuss how your homeowners policy coverage applies to trees please call (413) 253-5555.

Registry News ...

The Hadley registry location closed in May 2009. Closest ones to Amherst - Easthampton, Greenfield or Chicopee. The registry's budget was slashed which is the reason for reducing the number of registry's in the state form 34 to 23.

Helpful hint: You can log onto the Registry of Motor Vechicles (RMV) Web site and check each location for registration and license wait times. The registry is encouraging that you use their Web site to renew your license, registration, change your address, and become an organ donor.

Reminder: Vehicles purchased after 8/1/09 must pay the new sales tax rate of 6.25%. Also, the registry has increased their fees effective 8/1/09.
